In 2014, Farm Credit Services of America and Frontier Farm Credit entered into a strategic alliance. This position is responsible for the overall leadership and performance of each of these Farm Credit System Associations.

The CEO is accountable and responsible for providing effective leadership, strategic planning and organizational capacity for all Associations’ activities for the benefit of customers while ensuring profitability and long-term viability. The CEO is expected to engage the Boards in strategic thinking and planning; develop and implement policies established by the Boards and keep them informed of significant issues. A primary responsibility of the CEO is to develop, maintain and continually advance an engaging culture and motivated workforce to ensure accountability for desired business results and deliver unparalleled customer experience.

Direct: Executive VP (Lending Division); Sr. VP-Chief Risk Officer; Sr. VP-Chief Strategy Officer; Sr. VP-Chief Financial Officer; Sr. VP-Commercial Lending, Sr. VP Human Capital Services and Corporate Secretary and Sr. VP & General Counsel.

Indirect: Director of Internal Audit (Direct report to Associations’ Board Audit Committees) and All Other Associations’ Employees

Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:

1. Vision and Strategy
Lead and challenge the Associations to leverage key competencies and seek opportunities that create a unique and distinctive business strategy that benefits customer. Actively engage the Boards in the creation of a robust and dynamic strategic planning model. Articulate vision, strategies, and priorities that inspire and motivate. Collaborate with the Boards and senior leadership to provide a clear vision and direction. Develop internal capabilities to assure effective execution of the Strategic Plan.

2. Executive Leadership/Communication
Establish and lead an executive leadership team to provide dynamic leadership to the Associations. Provide leadership and effective communication with Associations’ Boards, Farm Credit Administration, System leaders and the Associations’ leadership and staff. Represent Associations to the public in a manner which will enhance image and aid in the accomplishment of objectives. Demonstrate personal and organizational values and ethical behavior. Apply well developed judgement and decision making and market opportunity assessment.

3. Board Partnership and Development
Establish respect, develop trust and demonstrate integrity in interactions with the Boards. Support and actively lead decisions and directions of the Boards. Support and proactively offer Board educational opportunities. Communicate effectively with the Boards of Directors, providing appropriate information at and between meetings. Create strong alignment and constructive collaboration between the Boards and the Executive Leadership Team.

4. Strategic and Business Plan Execution
Create accountability to ensure results are achieved and processes maintain integrity. Assess risks and develop appropriate plans to mitigate and manage identified risks. Leverage financial acumen to lead the Associations and ensure a sound strategic direction. Utilize critical thinking to address day-to-day opportunities and challenges and to resolve complex problems.

5. Culture
Develop, maintain and continually advance an engaging culture and motivated workforce to ensure accountability for desired business results and unparalleled customer experience. Ensure that the required infrastructure is in place to drive success and to attract and retain talent. Foster a learning environment for employees. Recognize the value of diversity and inclusion and take actions to maintain an inclusive environment.
6. Organizational Development and Succession
Create development programs for executive and senior leaders to assure effective succession. Develop programs and activities to assure organizational leadership development. Maintain an engaging environment for leadership to assure retention of key leadership talent.
7. Key Stakeholder Relationships
Promote the Associations through active and personal customer engagement. Participate in activities to promote a positive image within the Farm Credit System and position the Associations as industry leaders. Develop and maintain constructive and proactive Farm Credit System leadership relationships, specifically including the Farm Credit Administration, AgriBank, and CoBank. Develop internal and external professional relationships to leverage business opportunities for stockholder benefit.

Additional functions of the position may include:
1. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelors degree in business administration, agriculture, economics or finance is required. Eight to ten years or more of mid to upper level leadership experience in significant agricultural industry and/or financial institution desired.

Duties required:
• Demonstrated competence in strategic thinking, business development/marketing and public relations
• Strong, diverse agriculture industry knowledge and experience
• Superior written, oral and public speaking communication skills
• Demonstrated competencies in: credit administration, communications, management/administration, decision-making/problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and effectively demonstrate team building attitude and skills
• Proficient in Windows environment using Microsoft Word and Internet Explorer

Extensive contact with Associations’ Boards of Directors, representatives of other Farm Credit Associations, Farm Credit Administration, and other business leaders. Extensive internal contact with Executive Leadership Team members and other leaders in the organization. Ongoing interaction with all employees.

• Ability to reason, judge, compare, calculate, evaluate and critique such information as written materials, numerical data, responses to customer needs and/or other work related activities
• Ability to complete work in an acceptable timeframe and manage a variety of detailed tasks and responsibilities simultaneously and with accuracy to meet deadlines, goals, and objectives and satisfy internal and external customer needs related to the job
• Ability to operate telephone and respond to calls and in-person inquiries
• Ability to move about the office with occasional reaching and bending
• Ability to successfully interact with and represent the organization to staff, officers, board members, customers, and the public at all levels
• Ability to travel by auto or commercial transportation to carry out essential responsibilities
• Ability to use computer. This involves reading the screen and keying/typing information
• Ability to travel up to 50% of time
• Ability to be available for frequent evening and occasional weekend events
