Job Description:

POSITION REPORTS TO: Vice President Insurance

Serve as primary agent for renewing policies with combined crop and hail acres of 500 to 1500 acres with varying levels of complexity and servicing crop and hail insurance policies to all customers, while building strong working relationships with customers and prospects. Provide insurance sales and service support to Insurance Officers. Provide consistent high quality service that is timely, thorough, and responsive to meet and exceed customer expectations. Collaborate with Regional teams to reach sales goals and with Omaha Insurance Teams to facilitate timely and accurate processing of data.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:
1. Sales – Incumbents will sell crop, crop-hail and supplemental insurance to walk-in customers as applicable to Region. Incumbent will communicate options to the customer, utilizing the website tools, policy provisions, etc. to assist the customer in making risk management decisions. Incumbents will prepare and present quotes and proactively identify future customer needs and opportunities for cross-selling of products.
Grade 16: Develop knowledge of systems and begin to apply knowledge by participating in preparation and presentation of quotes to customers. Work completed independently with oversight.
Grade 17: Solid understanding of applicable systems and able to participate in interpreting complex policies. Prepare and present quotes with limited oversight for smaller, less complex customers. Attend regular customer visits with Financial Officer.
Grade 18: Independently prepare and present quotes. May attend joint sales calls with Insurance Officers to provide customers with insights into "service" side of process, or for an introduction to assist with the transition of the customer. Visit with customers independently.
Grade 19: Independently prepare and present quotes and handle the most complex policies.
Provide guidance and assistance to less experienced Insurance Account Specialists. Work towards specific sales goals, develop own prospect list and work with walk in customers. Develop marketing plan, conduct joint sales calls with Insurance Officers. Develop plan to transition out of office work, i.e. 20% of time out of the office, for sales activities. Time out of office may increase up to 50% if an incumbent has an interest in pursuing an Insurance Officer position and there is an anticipated opening within the next 12 to 18 months. Partner with Insurance Officer and serve as joint relationship manager for larger accounts.
2. External Customers Service – Responsible for servicing Crop and Hail insurance policies and will serve as a primary point of contact through various steps to include:
• Policy changes
• Collect production history
• Collect acreage information
• Report, track, and verify losses for policy holders within assigned portfolio
• Renew insurance policies
• Collect and monitor delinquent insurance premiums with assigned portfolio
• Work with customers to ensure problem resolution
Grade 16: Gain and grow in general knowledge of responsibilities until able to function independently.
Grade 17: Will provide limited support as they gain experience and knowledge for smaller less complex customers.
Grade 18: Provide assistance for larger and more complex customers. May sit in on renewals for less experienced staff
Grade 19: Provide assistance on most complex and largest customers and handle claims of key accounts in addition to claims in their own portfolio.
3. Internal Customer Service – Provide customer support behind the scenes by ensuring timely submission of insurance documents. Verify electronic insurance documents reflect current information and through use of insurance website reports and other resources, ensure complete and accurate reporting to meet deadlines. Edit processed insurance documents as assigned.
Grade 16: Gain and grow in knowledge of job role until able to function independently.
Grade 17: Competent to perform job role with direction on complex situations.
Grade 18: Fluent in all aspects of the processes with exception of most complex situation. Provide guidance to less experienced incumbents on less complex situations.
Grade 19: Expert in all aspects of the processes and provide guidance to less experienced incumbents.
4. Support Insurance Officers– Provide support for Insurance Officers in Region to assist in balancing workloads by preparing customer quotes and attending customer meetings as applicable. May also complete support tasks such as scanning, indexing, precision farming to enable Insurance Officer to focus on Sales aspect of their job.
Grade 16: Provide limited support in the areas of scanning, indexing and verification of payments/calculations.
Grade 17: Will provide limited support as they gain experience and knowledge. May prepare acreage reports and complete necessary steps of process with oversight by Insurance Officer.
Grade 18: Provide assistance for larger and more complex customers. Prepare acreage reports to assist Insurance Officer.
Grade 19: Provide assistance on most complex and largest customers and handle claims of key accounts in addition to claims in their own portfolio.
5. Train/Mentor – Assist the Vice President Insurance with onboarding new Insurance Team members in Region and serve as a resource for training other Insurance Account Specialists and Insurance Officers on required servicing actions. Assist Vice President Insurance with implementing training programs developed by both external insurance companies and Farm Credit Services of America.

Grade 18: Provide some training to less experienced incumbents. Participate in learning community planning committee, and present at meetings.
Grade 19: Same as Grade 18 and participate in cross-functional workgroups.
6. Use of Technology – Use of external websites and technology in addition to internal software to perform above responsibilities. Insurance Company websites, Government websites, Insurance Company quoting software, and internal software (i.e. AgentPro) and digital tools to complete work and monitor workflow.
Grade 16: Learning functionality and use of various websites, technology and tools.
Grade 17: Competent in use of various websites and tools necessary to perform functions of the job.
Grade 18: Fluent in use of various websites and tools necessary to perform functions of the job.
Grade 19: Expert in all aspects of websites and technology

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
All Levels: High school education or equivalent required. Two to four year college degree preferred and/or a combination of related experience or specialized training. Ability to complete internal sales training, such as Professional Selling Skills (PSS) training course.
Job Grade 16: Ideal candidate will have a minimum of one to three years related experience required. Must possess applicable current insurance licenses (or have the ability to obtain). Knowledge of crop and hail insurance products preferred. Servicing responsibilities to customers averaging up to 750 insured acres of limited complexity.
Job Grade 17: Ideal candidate will have a minimum of three to five years of related experience. Must possess applicable current insurance licenses or have the ability to obtain, and possess demonstrated skills in selling. Solid knowledge and demonstrated expertise of crop and hail insurance products required as well as a solid understanding of insurance industry. Servicing responsibilities to customers with averaging up to 1,000 insured acres of moderate complexity.
Job Grade 18: Ideal candidate will have a minimum of five to seven years of related experience. Must possess applicable current insurance licenses or have the ability to obtain and possess demonstrated expertise in selling skills. In-depth knowledge and demonstrated expertise of crop and hail insurance products required as well as a solid understanding of insurance industry. Servicing responsibilities will be focused on customers who have averaging 1,250 insured acres. Portfolio is typically comprised of larger and more complex policies.
Job Grade 19: Same as level 18 but with focus on policies averaging up to 1,500 acres that are larger and the most complex, as well as policies that cross multiple Regions and States. Partner with Insurance Officers in servicing and selling to key accounts. Demonstrated expertise in sales and ability to develop prospect list.

INTERNAL/EXTERNAL CONTACTS:
Extensive internal contact with Regional teams. Regular contact with Omaha teams. Extensive contact with Insurance Services Teams and frequent contact with insurance customers for sales and service of policies.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to use computer. This involves reading the screen and keying/typing information. Proficient in Windows environment using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer. Ability to use and understand various computer software related to carrying out essential responsibilities of the position.
